Hi!

Thanks for visiting my website! I hope you find some useful travel tips, yummy restaurants to check out, or are at least amused and entertained by a few good stories.

La Mar, Lima, Peru

Most famous cevicheria in the world. The chef who started it all Gaston Acurio is the man of Peru, specifically Lima. We arrived at noon just as it opened and it was basically packed within 15 minutes with both tourists and locals.

We ordered some Pisco drinks. I had a Passion Fruit Pisco Sour and Adam had a Coca leave Pisco Sour. Both were great but I liked the fruitiness of mine better. We ordered the ceviche sampler of course and then some seafood wontons just in case the ceviche wasn’t enough. Adam also doesn’t love raw fish. After all the seafood we are definitely looking for some meats on Day 2.

The ceviche was amazing. I don’t think I could ever eat sub-par ceviche again. But it was a lot. The first one is tuna in a soy sauce almost like a tartare. The other two both are heavy on the lime and very acidic. The orange one had octopus and shrimp and the last one was considered “classic” with a white fish. The chunks of fish were big so it was a bit intimidating. I loved the seafood wantons as well, but they were certainly more wanton than seafood. The acidity of the drinks and fish combined with the heat left me with a bit of a tummy ache.
