I am impressed with the timing we made getting here! We got off the plane about 10am and we’re on there first trans out of the Casablanca airport at 10:55. The airport was super clean and very new looking. Train station downstairs was easy to find. We had a quick and confusing money exchange, (not really sure what happened there but we ended up with 7000 MAD (dirhams) and paid about $770usd, I’m unsure if that was good or bad but it’s over haha) then we ran to the train and headed to the next station.
I had tried to read online multiple times about how to get from Casablanca to Marrakech and I’m not sure why so many websites made it sound much more difficult than it was. Easy peasy, we made the 11:35 train from Casablanca to Marrakech and arrived in the city at 2:20. Both of us slept for basically the entire 3 hour train ride. Thank goodness, we needed it!
When we arrived in Marrakech, we grabbed a quick cappuccino and haggled with a cab driver to get us to Jamaa el Fna square. The hostel sent us some cool directions that start from there. It was like a scavenger hunt with photos and clues of how to arrive. Very enjoyable way to enter the city!
Our hostel, Rodamon Riad Marrakech, is beautiful! Everything is white and and clean and the room was great. I took a shower as soon as we arrived and I am telling you this was the best shower ever. It was so hot so quickly and the space was large enough that it felt like a steam room. Can’t wait to go back and shower there again!
We relaxed a bit and then wandered around taking photos of everything. The patterns and architecture are so beautiful. You can’t stop for too long or people will try to sell you things. We enjoyed photos while the light was still out.
We saw our first camel!
