Dinner at le jardin - Marrakech
After wandering the streets and checking the menu at a few places, we decided on le jardin for dinner. I had heard that Morocco was inexpensive and I think there are likely many places to eat for less than le jardin but I am somewhat weary of the street food and smaller restaurants. I read not to drink the water and even the guy at the front desk of the hostel said to stick to big places unless you have a “strong stomach”.
So le jardin it is! Cute place with lots of plants and seating on the terrace. We ordered mint tea which is Morocco’s go-to drink. Muslims don’t drink and most restaurants don’t even serve any booze. So basically I’m detoxing 😂🤷🏻♀️
We started with carrot hummus which is not pictured here because it wasn’t very good. It tasted more like cauliflower hummus. We also ordered these fried pastry wrapped cheese triangles with a sun dried tomato jam that were absolutely delicious! For dinner we ordered a “brouchette” which neither of us knew what it was. Nicole ordered chicken and I ordered lamb. They ended up being grilled kabobs and they were really yummy! The red sauce was very spicy. The mixed herbs on the side I believe is called “harissa” and I dipped my kabob in there. Maroccan food gets a stamp of approval so far!
During dinner, while attached to WiFi, I got an email from the Moroccan Nature Trail—our tour company—that the other people in our tour canceled so we would either have to pay for a private tour or join a different group. I said it was fine but I wanted to make sure that the tour was the same and could they send me the name of the company. He said it wasn’t a tour company but a collective group, I didn’t understand what that meant but it seems that basically every tourist who comes to Marrakech goes on this same tour. We said okay after many confusing emails exchanged and confirmed a 7:30am pickup time at our hostel. Early to bed for an adventure tomorrow!
