Milan in 4 hours
Welcome to Italy!
I have to start by telling you that I was somewhat excited to fly on Alitalia because I remembered good food as far as plane food goes and a lot of it. Somehow I think they have cut back...like most airlines. The dinner was good (bread, beef with mushrooms, veggies and potatoes, some odd couscous thing raisins and olives, and a muffin type cake for dessert) but really only found the bread and meat to be edible. The cake/muffin thing was way too sweet and the couscous was super weird tasting. There was no snack (yes, I'm still thinking about the Rosemary crackers from four years ago) so that was disappointing. Instead of a breakfast box with yogurt and a croissant and cookies ( I remember, I have a picture) everyone got one large chocolate croissant. I think I could almost enjoy flying if the food was good. I'm sure the people up at the front of the plane are eating well with their $2500 tickets. But apparently Economy seating doesn't buy you much.
Anyway, my new huge travel pillow that you stick your face into (Woolip Travel Pillow)was a bit bulky. I couldn't get comfortable with it until Adam switched seats with me so I could lean on the window. It was a chivalrous move as I fell asleep somewhat comfortably but I could tell Adam was not sleeping well due to his fidgeting.
But we made it! Despite some sleepiness, we took a bus from the airport to the train station, left our luggage at the train station lockers, and took the Metro to the Duomo. It's always breathtaking to come out of a subway station and see a beautiful, huge, cathedral. Lunch was front of mind, and I had found a place in advance to eat so we wouldn't get ripped off with tourists prices or end up wandering around. Luini Panzerotti is just around the block from the Duomo and they sell what I will describe as Italian empanadas or mini calzones. We started with a little pizza which was very good but then when we tasted the Panzerotti and they were amazing. The bread was out of control with its fluffy sweet and buttery deliciousness and then stuffed with melted mozzarella and salami...seriously good. I'm getting pretty hungry again as I write this.
The weather here was perfect by the way, 60 degrees with hot sun in Milan. Currently, we are on the train to Venice. Should be arriving shortly. However, I'm writing this without internet so I assume by the time I post this, we will be settled in our Venice hotel room. Can't wait to eat again!
