Trip to Budapest
I was so ready to go at 4pm and had planned on my brother arriving at 5pm with my dad ready to get to the airport. But it was raining, and papa is often running behind so I should have known better. Finally on the road at 5:15 and the traffic is crazy. Our flight is at 7:30pm and we’re now slated to get to the airport at 6:20pm. You can only imagine how much I’m freaking out.
We made it and then had to go through regular security and let me tell you that TSA Pre-Check is worth every penny and I never want to go through regular security again.
We find my cousin and aunt at the gate and the flight is already boarding. I desperately need my Xanax and wine after that drive to the airport so I run over the bar and use that stupid bar code to order and beg the “bartender” to pour it for me right away. I drank half a glass of cheap, warm, Pinot Noir with my pills. Gross.
It was raining in NJ so the flight was super bumpy to start. The flight attendants had to stay seated for nearly 45 minutes. Once we got our food (sweet and sour chicken), I was out. Probably 4 decent hours of sleep! Then woke up to a loud noise which maybe happened in my head, and everyone else was still asleep. I woke them up as the flight attendants were waving turkey breakfast sandwiches in their faces.
Landed in Frankfurt early (9am), but our flight to Budapest is at 10:35 so we have to get through customs and stamp the passport and make it to the next gate. Of course, Johnny is begging for a smoking lounge as soon as we get off the plane.
The passport line was moving at an okay speed, but then the agent went on break and we had to just wait for the next person to start their shift. So very European of them.
Have I mentioned our matching orange hats yet? Well, my darling Rebecca gave us all orange hats from Dunkin Donuts and as we rounded the corner and found Chris Wray, he looked absolutely horrified to see us all in matching bright orange hats. He has since given in, they are quite useful.
Very full and bumpy flight over the Budapest which we all slept, cab ride into the city where Johnny already started talking politics with the cab driver, and finally arrived in a very spacious apartment. We’re ready to start eating!
