Hi!

Thanks for visiting my website! I hope you find some useful travel tips, yummy restaurants to check out, or are at least amused and entertained by a few good stories.

Final Day

Final Day

Tuesday’s final day plan was our usual breakfast, some time by the water, to bike to Ston for from souvenirs and groceries, and then back to dinner at our favorite restaurant in Mali Ston, Kapetenova Kuca.

Breakfast was leftover meat sauce and eggs made into a hash with some bread and cabbage salad. We’re creative, not picky, and it’s all delicious.

We ran out of coffee and though we had looked in many supermarkets, no one sold espresso? We could only find instant coffee. We tried one that wasn’t so good.

As Rebecca was heading down to the water, we heard a scream. She started yelling that she saw a snake. She immediately turned around to walk back toward the kitchen. Then another scream, and the sound of glass shattering. Bella and I were on the stairs heading up and we both stopped. Rebecca is screaming “there was a cricket on my book!” She threw the book, the glass she was holding, and her phone.

We decided to change up our plans a bit and bike into Ston first.

We stopped for a photo shoot as we biked into Ston, but just after photos were taken, Bella tripped over her bike and fell into some rocks. She is okay, but did cut up her elbow a bit. None of us were prepared for this injury.

Once we got to town, we picked up some bandaids and patched Bella up putting bandaids on like we were kids.

Ston was busy with tourists coming in on bus tours so we had some difficulty finding a seat. Once we did, we ordered 3 iced coffees because it was pretty hot out. The Croatian idea of an iced coffee is actually iced milk. We had to order 3 espressos additionally to get it to this color.

Across the way from our coffee stop was an art gallery. We stopped in to explore and met a very talkative French artist.

We loved his art, but he only took cash so I could only buy one small item. Probably good for my wallet though.

Next, some tourist photos and last grocery shopping. Despite originally thinking nothing was in Ston, there are actually 3 grocery stores to choose from just all much smaller than what we are accustomed to.

Since my front got a bit burned yesterday, I wanted to tan my back but didn’t really have a place to lay. I picked up a raft so I could lay in the water for a bit. We also purchased some ice cream because we haven’t eaten nearly enough gelato.

Sitting by the water for the last time was lovely. The bugs seem to subside in the afternoon and it really is super beautiful here. I wanted to continue to rest and relax but we had to get to dinner with time to enjoy before sunset.

We returned to the same restaurant because we enjoyed it so much on Friday. We had the same waiter who said he has been working there for 20 years.

We started this meal with cocktails and received the tiniest Negronis ever. Our waiter brought us more since I asked why it was so small (must have been an ounce and a half drink?)

Tonight’s appetizer was “Vegetable Fritters” which was a full on veggie plate full of fresh and delicious vegetables. The fritters were made of chard, potatoes, and garlic. So good.

We’re particularly impressed with the potatoes here. They seem to have so much more flavor than at home. But basically all of the produce is like that.

For entree, another fresh fish. Sea bass cooked in salt. He served it to us, topped it with olive oil, we added lemon, and yum! Seafood by the sea dreams come true.

After dinner we took a bottle of dessert wine home with us and decided to drink it in bed after packing while eating ice cream.

We stayed up and giggled for a bit, then to sleep for a 6am wake up to head back home.
