Totally overslept, woke kinda grumpy because we we missed breakfast at the hotel and we’re running late to return the car in Porto. Hit the road at about 11am and made it to the car rental by noon-ish. Ubered to our hotel where we couldn’t check in until 3pm so dropped the bags and went out in search of good coffee.
Not having eaten yet we were quite hungry when our Uber driver started talking about the sandwich of Porto called a Francescinha. He made it sound good- meats layered between bread covered in cheese and a special sauce with potatoes. So we decided we would have to try it.
But first-coffee! I looked up “best coffee in Porto” and the internet did not disappoint. Cafe C’alma was super cute inside this theatre and I knew it would be good coffee by all the dirty hair hippies and nose rings present as we walked in.
After a cappuccino and a latte ( and something called “queque” which is pronounced “cake” and was just a corn muffin) we headed out to a place up the block that supposedly serves the best fattening sandwich in town.
Waited on line to check the Porto sandwich box and share one francescinha and super bock beer. Thank goodness we shared, it was basically the disco fries of Porto.
I decided to book a 3pm walking tour, typically this is one of my favorite ways to see the city. But this one was the least walking I’ve ever done on a walking tour and I didn’t love the tour guides sense of humor and he talked so much that we were both spacing out after 2 hours so we cut out a half hour early and walked ourselves down to the river. That is the main attraction after all!
