Lisbon to Lagos
The train station is a 30 minute walk from the airport. We googled it ahead of time, and since we were landing at 5:45 and the train wasn’t until 8:43, we should have plenty of time.
But after walking outside of the airport and not having a clue where to go and being ridiculously jet lagged since we’re pretending it’s 7am but it’s actually midnight at home, we decided to take the metro. Very easy, 3 stops, and we are at Oriente Train station.
Except we don’t see any trains. So we wander around and window shop and take pictures instead to kill time.
Well at some point I decided to check the tickets to make sure we were in the right place and good thing I did because the train was at 8:23 not 8:43. So we asked a police office where are the trains? We walked in circles a bit until we finally found the entrance to the platform upstairs.
But there was no big screen with all the departure times. Just a small one that was only updating five minutes before trains arrived. It was probably 7:50 so we were still a bit early. We waited and watched. But at 8:15 a worker came out and I asked him to ensure we are in the right place. He says yes just keep waiting and watch the board. But then it’s 8:20 and I’m like “sir, our train is supposed to leave in two minutes and it’s still not on the board” so he sighs and says “ok go to platform 7”….like he couldn’t have told us that before?
So we ran over but it didn’t matter. The train was 30 mins late, and then once we got on, still didn’t depart for another 20 mins. We decided to do our charcoal eye masks and I fell right back asleep.
We finally arrive at Tunes where we have to change trains. It’s around noon in Portugal so now 7am at home. Once again, Cor barely slept on the train though I think she got a power nap in when I forced her to put her eye mask on.
1:00pm - we finally arrive in Lagos!!!
Just a 15 minute walk from the train to our apartment except we didn’t know where we were going and it was very hot out. Asked a few people along the way, finally got to the apartment, we can’t wait to change from the clothes we’ve been wearing for 18 hours and….no one answers the door.
Logically, the only thing to do is sit down at the bar downstairs and connect to WiFi while having some food and drink!
It turns out the owner of the apartment went to the train station to pick us up! He sent me an email saying it was too hot for us to walk but I didn’t see it because of no service. Whoops! But he came back and let us in and finally we put our bathing suits on and it’s beach time!!!!
