Finally after nearly two years of communicating with the hostel owner, Joao, we were there at Camone with him.

He was so nice and over the year of covid, decided to convert his hostel in to two apartments. It turns out that our apartment is two bedrooms and sleeps 6. We have multiple balconies, our own kitchen, an amazing view, and a rooftop to ourselves. We asked Joao his favorite restaurant, and he suggested Camilo which is on Camilo beach. He said it is difficult to get reservations so he went ahead and called for us and they had one table left for 2 at 6pm.

We took a quick run to the beach, rested up there, and then came back to ready ourselves for dinner.

Restaurant Camilo is at the top of a cliff overlooking the sea. Such a pretty view. When we walked in there were all these fresh fish on ice to select our dinner from. We decided to make our dinner a wine pairing event as well. Except that I didn’t write any of the wine names down so…oops.

For apps we had a rose and “Mixed Starters Small”. We didn’t know what that was but asked for it anyway. Also bread and butter, which you have to pay for, but it’s inexpensive. Our mixed starters were pickled carrot salad, octopus salad, and chorizo with mushrooms and shrimp. All delicioso.

Next we ordered two oysters each. Paired with white wine from Algarve. These oysters may have been the freshest we’ve ever had. In fact, they tasted just as it would to swallow a mouthful of salt water. The first one each was gross. I tried to get some sort of cocktail sauce. The waitress didn’t have any so she made a vinegar sauce. I scooped it into my oyster and it was literally so gross and I couldn’t spit it out at this nice restaurant so I just swallowed it and chugged the wine.

We were able to select the fresh fish we wanted except that I don’t know fish at all so we just asked for a fish for two that was light. It was really amazing. They deboned the fish for us, we topped it with lemon and olive oil. Paired with a crisp white wine. Yum yum yum. Seafood by the sea.

To end our perfect meal, we had a roasted apple with some Portuguese dessert wine. It wasn’t anything super amazing but it was a nice end to a lovely dinner.
