Newark to Dublin
Well, well, well nothing can be easy.
I found Chris at Newark airport around 8pm when he deplaned from his flight from San Francisco. We got a little food and drink by the gate (I proceeded to get food on my brand new green travel outfit) and found Mama and Papa Earls waiting at the gate too!
The flight was scheduled for 9:45 departure and 8:55 boarding. We lined up around 9 and they announced to calm down we wouldn’t start boarding until 9:30. Got settled into the seats, Chris starts a movie, I start sleeping.
Wake up, we haven’t moved. It’s raining, takeoffs paused. Too many planes going to Europe ahead of us. By 11pm people are antsy and they tell us we must stay seated and seatbelts on because we are taxiing on the runway. Except like, it’s not been 2 hours on the plane and people (me) have to pee after two cocktails and people (me) are thirsty after two Xanax.
Finally they turn the engine off and park since we’re not moving anywhere soon and they didn’t want to have to go back and refuel. The flight attendants brought around water and we were smack in the middle of the plane and last to get water. I was so thirsty I need to drink water again right now just thinking about it.
I think we took off around midnight. I was in and out of sleepiness and felt like we went from being 10th in line to taking off very quickly but maybe I was asleep. The takeoff was bumpy because of the storm but overall the flight was fine after that. The plane food was disappointing (lemon chicken with rice) but I was also pretty drugged and exhausted when I got the food. The dessert was a milk bar chocolate pretzel cookie that was delicious.
I slept like 3 hours and then switched seats with Chris since he was in the middle. I gave him my eye mask and he finally got to sleep for a few hours. Some idiots on the plane had their shades up which really should not be allowed on an overnight flight. It was so bright I fell back asleep with my blanket over my head.
We finally landed at noon local time, between waiting for luggage and traffic, we got to the hotel at 2pm. From the airport to hotel, so far looks like any other place in the world :)
