Good Morning Reykjavik!
Flight time: 4 hours and 55 minutes
Time slept on the plane....maybe 30 mins total. Icelandair has to have been the smallest most uncomfortable plane seat ever. You get what you pay for: $350 round-trip = no sleeping. ( no snacks, one non-alcoholic beverage )
Arrived at Keflavik Airport at 6:15am local time. The plane couldn’t go to a gate so we had to deboard and take a bus into the terminal. We found ourselves in the most confusing airport ever. I think it took us an hour to try to figure out how to get out of there. At one point, we tried to buy food and the person wouldn’t sell Adam a sandwich because we were arriving rather than departing...???? Anyway, Joe and the Juice is a popular chain here. We got two yummy juices at one of the three locations in the airport.
The airport is a 45 minute (and $30) bus ride from Reykjavik. That 45 ride was the best sleep I got all night.
Dropped bags at the hostel, left in search of food. Found the Laundromat Cafe which I had heard of in advance as being very good! So we breakfasted there. Basic breakfast plate (two eggs, bacon, bread) and two cappuccinos....$50. Yep. Iceland! But on The bright side, it was delicious. Omg the bread and butter 😍😍😍 I may smuggle some Icelandic butter home with me.
(Also funny to note, 100 isk is about $1 so when you pay they say fifty thousand and it’s like 😱😰😭🤭)
After breakfast we wandered around the shops and main streets. Had to keep active until the walking tour at 1pm. We grabbed an espresso before then and both felt pretty good during the tour.
We used freewalkingtour.is and the guide (Thor) was awesome. Funny, informative, nice, great tour guide. The population in Iceland is about 330,000 people, everyone is related which makes dating tough, schools teach Icelandic, English, and Danish to all students, Iceland has been independent from Denmark since 1944...I definitely learned more right? Hmm. Anyway, it was a great tour.
Stopped for a quick lamb soup before the best time...NAP TIME!
