Vacation starts now!
Flying from Newark to Reykjavik tonight (Thursday) at 7:45pm. We will arrive in Reykjavik at 6:15am local time. What time will that be in NYC? It will be 1:15am. This means we will start our Friday at 1:15am and have to stay awake for way too long.
The plan is to drink coffee, drop bags of at the hostel, drink more coffee, check out the local supermarket, have another coffee, do a 1:00pm walking tour, have a snack, and finally we can check into the hotel and nap.
Yes, Iceland is cold. No, it is not colder than NJ right now. In fact, it might feel warm at 30 degrees compared to the local 17 degrees.
Iceland is pricey. This makes it a great weekend trip because it is cheap to get there but expensive to stay. Me being who I am....I have made a list of places that sell affordable food. I'm imagining it can't be too much worse than traveling to NYC. According to priceoftravel.com Reykjavik costs $110 per day as opposed to NYC at $102 per day. Let's put it this way, our hostel offers breakfast for $16 per person per day...
Sunrise 10:45am, Sunset 4:30pm. Goal: Make the most of the daylight! More pertinent goal: See the Northern Lights!
