Athens to Paros
The ferry to Paros is at 7:40am. I’m nervous about it, so I want to be there at 7am. I was thinking we would take a cab, but when we asked the girl at the desk, she told us we could take the metro and walk to the bus station and take a bus to the port and save a lot of money.
So we woke up at 4:45am, got ready, and went to the metro at 5:10am...which was closed. The bus was supposed to leave at 5:45. What if we didn’t make it in time? So then we decided to walk to the bus station. It wasn’t terribly long but it was definitely about 30 minutes because we just made it to the bus.
Athens definitely has a lot of night life and a lot of poverty. At 5am we saw many people who were still out from last night, and also a lot of homeless on the streets.
Luckily we made the bus and arrived at the port around 6:40am. The best part was seeing the sunrise over the water. We were able to buy some coffee and pastries before board the ferry. This was NOT what I pictured for a ferry. This was a ship. It was large, the seats were numbered, and there was air condition. There was no way to even be outside on an observation deck. Definitely not what was expected. When we finally started really moving, it made me super dizzy. We snuck up to first class and grabbed some seats there. The only way I could relax? I laid on top of Adam and we ended up both falling asleep for the majority of the 3 hour ferry ride.
I am so glad we decided to travel to Paros. The ship was mostly empty when we got there and I can already tell this is our style of island!
