Lunch at Cafe Zia and the Eiffel Tower
I was, and still am, completely mind blown by the gigantic plane that we flew here in. I have always wanted to be on a double decker plane. The first class is upstairs so now I definitely want to fly first class on a double decker just to see the second floor. I might have explored a bit more if I wasn’t so drugged up and drunk. Google Airbus 380 for more info. It’s super cool.
When we checked in, we were about to check our bags when the lady told us that we bought cheap-o tickets and it would be $60 per bag to check them. I think we both looked shocked and miserable and I told her I could carry this bag on the plane. It depends on the airline if they give me a hard time about it but I would say 80% of the time I have carried this on. The lady was very nice and said we should try to make the bags look flatter and take them to the gate and see what happens. Luckily, no issue at all. No one noticed and we carried them on!
Adam had NyQuil before we went through security so he was fighting drowsiness for the 3 hours before getting on the plane. We booked seats A and C and got lucky once again with no one sitting in B so we had the row to ourselves! We both completely passed out on the plane. Adam had to poke me in the face to wake me for food. Balsamic chicken and potatoes—delicious. Why do I love airplane food? Maybe it’s the drugs.
Smooth flight, no complaints. It all goes by in a blur when you sleep the whole time.
The airport in Paris was bright and full of natural light but it was such a maze! Basically we walked for probably 10 minutes before arriving at the passport control gate. I definitely felt like we were in a human maze and had to figure the way out. Took 30 mins to find an exit. Finally we got on a bus to take us to the center of Paris. We both fell asleep again.
Our plan was to meet Edwina for lunch by the Eiffel Tower. Edwina was a freshman when I was a senior. Somehow after she graduated I recruited her to be a host at The Capital Grille (as I do with all BCA alumni) and we became good friends. Our boss encouraged her to work as an au pair in Paris for the summer and basically she has lived here ever since!
I liked “Zia” because it looked cute and cozy and was an Italian name! We arrived before Edwina because the metro system is shut down at a lot of stops on saturdays for the yellow jacket protests that have been going on since October. We ended up ubering twice Because we were confused by the metro.
The menu was in French so besides “cappuccino” we had to study pretty thoroughly to order. Still, we weren’t sure of everything so it was a little risk when we ordered.
Adam ended up with a skillet of eggs, bacon, and cheese so I think he was happy. It was a big dish (and cost a lot for €15) so I am glad it worked out.
Mine was delicious as well! I ordered a pork carnitas breakfast burrito. I never really had a breakfast burrito before even though I know they are popular. This may have changed my ways. I could make this! (Or at least my mom can.)
Yummy lunch, so fun to see Edwina and head all the cool things she is doing here. After we ate, she walked us over to the Eiffel Tower! It really is quite pretty. We took a fw pictures, sat in the lawn for a bit, and then it looked like it was going to rain again so we left. Our time was short, we had a train to catch at 5:50 to go to Lyon.
