Hi!

Thanks for visiting my website! I hope you find some useful travel tips, yummy restaurants to check out, or are at least amused and entertained by a few good stories.

Day Seven: Hvar (the party island)

Day Seven: Hvar (the party island)

Day seven of my trip, day 5 on the boat. By day 5, you realize after spending 24 hours a day with people, who you like and who you can tolerate and who you may want to please sit somewhere no where near me during our meals! And my tolerance is pretty low for people overall so I will say that is definitely a factor starting this day.

We had an early start, 7am breakfast and 8am departure for the blue cave. We waited on line for awhile but probably were back on the boat by 10am. The cave was beautiful, have to duck your head on the boat to get in, and then the sunlight reflects under and makes the cave bright blue. Pictures can’t really capture it!

So 10am with our swim stop not until 11:30, my roomie and I beelined to our room for nap time. I had trouble sleeping, but around 11am I heard a huge crack and very loud thunder. I shot out of bed and woke Jorja (pronounced Georgia) and she heard it but said “it’s probably the anchor” so I went back to sleep. My alarm went off at 11:30 and I thought I heard rain so I looked out the window and it was storming! A sea squall!

I was fascinated so I went up to the deck and most people were up there, half playing cards the other half drinking heavily. Joined the group playing cards for a bit but the waves were getting bigger and bigger making it tough for anyone to concentrate and everyone saying they needed fresh air and running away to stare at the horizon and take motion sickness tablets. I had my little motion sick bands on my wrist which supposedly hit a pressure point in your wrist to help nausea. Unsure if they work but I mostly felt fine. I don’t typically feel nauseous though. So while half the boat is about to puke, the other half (mainly a group of Australian friends) we’re downing red bull vodkas.

Lunch around 1:30pm once the boat stopped swaying a bit. Apparently I took no pictures. We had bruschetta and beef spring rolls and shrimp pasta and brownie and ice cream. Dessert was the best again!

No swim stop due to the weather but because of Hvar being so popular (it’s the Ibiza of Croatia) we couldn’t dock until closer to 8pm. Instead everyone had to be ready by 3:30pm for a water taxi to the island.

Surprisingly, I did another hike up to the lookout point. It was intense but not as bad as the first one!

Then had some yogurt pomegranate gelato and wandered the streets through some cute stores heading to the Hula Hula beach bar. All of our group was there and had a good size table, music was great, definitely a nice spot. They had two huge bottles of Belvedere for the table, still partying intensely! We wanted to have a swim but the water was still intense and it was kind of cool out so only go out feet wet.

Dinner at a Thai restaurant which goes against my “eat Croatian food in Croatia” rule but I also haven’t had good Croatian food so I was happy to eat some Pad See Ew. It was super yummy.

At the end of dinner, the tour leader and my roomie (who’s a nurse) jump up and run out of the restaurant and we find out that the rowdy Australian friends who were drinking all day took some pills at the bar and one of them passed out and started spasming. Ambulance had to come and take him away and then there was all this drama about who had pills and should we go back on the boat or is it a somber vibe.

We saved the night though! Showered and went out to some overcrowded bars. Found a good one called Aloha with black lights and great music and danced until midnight! Photo below of me very excited that my multicolored nails were glowing. Lots of young people out since the drinking age here is 18.

In Hvar, at midnight you take a water taxi to the fancy island club, Carpe Diem, but I was definitely not in for an all night party. I don’t think anyone from our boat ended up going, but I did get a good sleep!
