Newark to Dubrovnik
Well I’ve been lucky in my flights not to have too many significant delays. But that luck ended last night.
First it was a 5pm flight, then delayed to 6pm, then less delayed to 5:30pm, then delayed again until 6pm, then we finally board and I cozy up in my last row seat (seat next to me was taken) and go right into my slumber cocoon only to wake up sweating an hour later and everyone is standing around. Turns out the cargo door wouldn’t close and the plane isnt giving any cool air when it’s not moving. So the flight team says we can get off the plane but then when I try to get off the people at the desk say that if you get off, you can’t get back on. So I go back and stand up at the front of the plane where it is cooler. Then around 7:45 they ask everyone to gather all of their belongings and Deboard the plane. I made a friend sitting in front of me so we sat down at the restaurant and had a drink. She ordered a sandwich and shared with me, I was hungry but too cheap to buy airport food when there was plane food ahead 😅
Finally around 9:15 they fix the cargo door and we reboard. I have no idea when we took off bc I went back into my cocoon. Had to be around 10pm because the flight was 8 hours.
How was the flight? Did I sleep?
Yes, I guess I slept here and there. Plane sleep is more of a state of mind where I try to slip into dreamland in all sorts of uncomfortable positions before either a leg falling asleep or turbulence wakes me. This flight was bumpy. Nothing really scary except one tiny section of big bumps but there was a lot of rocking back and forth, enough that it kept waking me up and made it tough to sleep. I definitely slept for a little while because I had a dream that we landed in London and were delayed there as well.
So 8 hours in the air, watched no movies, only listened to music and “slept” and ate two unsatisfactory plane meals picture below.
Starting the descent was nice, we flew over Italy and I could see the coast. Then got to see some pretty islands with the gorgeous blue sea. Then saw the tops of houses appear….something about seeing those first red roofs really does it for me.
Now I’m at my hostel, it’s nice but it’s hot and my private room is quite possibly smaller than a jail cell. Doesn’t matter really, I’ll be heading out to walk the city walls and have some late lunch shortly. I need a coffee and a water and some cheese.
