Breakfast in Lisbon and Castelo de Sao Jorge
Monday was our only full day in Lisbon and the last official day of our vacation! We started with breakfast nearby to us at a cafe called O Ninjal.
Lisbon is a city of hills and stairs by the way…so walking to breakfast not yet having had coffee is a little tough.
The cafe was really nothing special. It was cute, we ate toast and eggs and our usual coffee, OJ, water. But nothing was really exciting about it.
So on to Sao Jorge Castle, a beautiful spot that has an amazing viewpoint of the city. I decided to use Rick Steve’s guidebook once we arrived and read through his tour. It’s really just ruins of a castle now and even when it was in use, it wasn’t really a castle where people lived, more like a place to take shelter if there was a battle.
Its modern use is an Instagram backdrop for everyone to take beautiful pictures.
While we were outside the castle, there was a little shop with a man making pretty paintings. Usually I’m nervous that these are not authentic and he is just pretending to paint but I think this might have been the real deal. I bought two small paintings and took a picture of him working.
We also found a cute little postcard outside this shop that we didn’t buy but took a picture with it.
