Schindler’s Factory and Lunch at Morskie Oko
Sunday night we decided to watch Schindlers List as a family in preparation for visiting the museum on Monday morning. After about an hour trying to figure out how to get it on the projector in this apartment, we watched about half of the movie before all falling asleep or tapping out due to sadness.
Monday morning we took a taxi to the museum and waited in line for 30 minutes to get in because the museum is free on Mondays which we did not know. Yes, “free = me” is my saying….but also crowds are not necessarily worth it. The museum layout was interesting but confusing. The first room was so crowded and there were multiple dead ends like one of those mirror mazes. We all lost each other trying to emerge from the room.
As I moved through the museum, I saw Chris in front of me and then not again but about an hour in, Alyssa and I caught up to one another. I never saw Papa or Aunt Mare after the first room. There was SO much information. I think you could spend an entire day in there if you wanted to read everything. But after two hours, and a lot of sad stories that we just couldn’t take anymore, Alyssa and I walked through to the end to find Aunt Mare, Chris, and Johnny all waiting in the lobby!
Well it turns out Aunt Mare followed a group of school children through the museum after being confused and overwhelmed in the front room and Papa could not figure out how to get out of the first room so he came out, asked for help, went back in and tried again, but ended up giving up and sitting in the lobby.
We already had a plan for lunch because we know by now that after morning museum time, everyone will be hungry. We went to a super cute place called Morskie Oko which was pretty fancy and we ordered way more food than necessary. The decor was really cute with lots of wood and cabin type decor.
Everyone got a soup, three mushroom soups in bread bowls and I got the red borscht with meat dumplings which I love.
For lunch, we ordered everything to share: Pierogis, kielbasa, pork butter (which no one ate but me lol), veal medallions, potato pancakes, and a grilled sheep cheese with cranberry sauce. It was all very very good but the kielbasa was certainly the winner!
I would definitely recommend this restaurant, I sort of wish we saved it for our final meal.
Post lunch is always nap time but we wandered through the market first and lost Johnny in the stalls. He claimed he knew the way back but shortly after arriving at our apartment, Chris and I had to go back out to rescue him. Search and rescue team found him and returned him safely to nap time.
